Thanklessgiving

I could have gone traditional and written what I'm thankful for on Thanksgiving day.  But I was busy and didn't really have time to, and I'm sure I've done that before numerous times.

So, now that it's after Thanksgiving, let's take time to list the the things that I'm not thankful for!  In no specific order of course:

1.  Black Friday.  I don't like it.  Waiting in line to buy things other than concert tickets?  I don't get it!  And then, people kill each other over these sales?  Really?  No!  What material item is vaulable enough to constitute murdering someone for the chance to purchase it?

2.  Road Rage Drivers.  Scary.  Dangerous.  Cause fatal accidents that make me late for work.

3. Seasonal shopping traffic.  If I just need to go down the street a mile and a half to the shopping center, I don't want it to take fifteen minutes to get there, and then 20 minutes to get back.  Where are all these people the rest of the year?  Do they not go to the store the rest of the year?  And what about online shopping?  I thought that cut down on a lot of in store shopping?  So, it could be even worse?

4. Animal Abusers.  Why would you hurt and animal?

5. Rapists and sex slave traders.  They are just bad people.

6. Whoever decided to cancel Outsourced and then Community on NBC.  Bastard.

7. Brunch.  Who the fuck came up with this meal, and did they invent it to torture service industry people?

8. Pending transactions.  hate waiting to see if a transaction has gone through in my account, and seeing sometimes that it takes days.  Sometimes, it appears that deposits are purposely not put in right away, so that the charges can go through first and overdraft fees will apply.

9. Animosity between Stinky and Rudy.  It's been 8 months now.  Can't they just get along already?

10.  The debris - leaves, ants, sand and trash - that ends up in my pool.  And the fact that the pool skimmer seems to have stopped working.

11. The Animal Planet channel show Too Cute!  It is so damn cute that it wastes my time.  I will watch a whole episode and pretty much stop what I'm doing, even if I've seen it before.

Whelp!  I'm tired, and that's about all I can think of right now.  So, that ends the list of thanklessnessgiving, 2012.

I didn't win the lottery :(

I was really banking on that one.  $200 million.  Someone from Iowa or somewhere won it.  I even quit my job already thinking I would win.

Ok, I didn't quit my job.  But I fantasize about quitting.  All the time.  Why?  Why am I like that?  I used to have friends who would say I'm never happy with any of my jobs.  But in retrospect, there's always got to be something good in a job to stay for more than a day, right?

Would you like me to list the positives about jobs I've had?  That should be a short list for sure.  I'm not going to include working for my parents... because it's working for my parents and it doesn't count.  But I will start after that in chronological order.

The beach toys kiosk in the mall.
1. It was my first job.
2. I got to get out of the house in the summer.
3. I met interesting people.
4. I got an interesting glimpse into the mall employee culture.

The internship at a literary journal when I was at FSU.
1.  It was my first and last job pertaining to writing.
2.  The people were nice.
3.  I got some experience seeing how a literary journal was run, and it was cool.
4.  I got my name in the credits.

The work study in the curriculum counseling office at Emerson College.
1.  It gave me a stipend.
2.  I had the chance to experience an office job where I had a desk.
3.  The people were nice.
4.  I met some interesting students and I like to think I helped them.
5.  I felt useful.
6.  It helped with the loneliness.
7.  Our end of semester work party was at a place called Brew Moon, which was my first experience with a nice brewpub and "gourmet" food.

Ben & Jerry's
1.  It was the first job that I ever applied to and really wanted to get.
2. I got to eat all the ice cream I wanted.
3. I worked with a lot of cool people.
4. I learned how to work a register and handle money and close out the deposit at night.
5. I had responsibility.
6. I started writing the schedule.
7. When closing on a Friday or Saturday night, sometimes we would make mixed drinks with ice cream or sorbet to take and drink on the way to the club.
8.  I made good money during the summer.
9.  I learned that I had led a sheltered life.

Sam Adams Brewery
1. I got to tell people I worked at Sam Adams!
2. I got to drink beer!
3. I got to try new beers before they came out.
4. I liked all the people there.
5. It was the most I had ever made hourly, even though it was only a few hours a week.
6. I got merchandise at a discount.
7. I got 2 free cases a month, and I also got to take extra expired beer too.
8. They let me invite my friends and hang out after hours and drink from the open taps!
9. I think if we hadn't left Boston I would have wanted to stay with the company for long term.

Coffee Cottage
1. I got hired right away after moving, so I felt secure about that.
2. I liked some of the people I worked with.

Spice Inc
1. I loved that store.
2.  I like most of the people I worked with.
3. I admire the owner.
4. I met interesting people.
5. I learned a lot about food.
6. I learned a lot about work politics.
7. I liked working somewhere that was ahead of it's time.

Man... this is going to be at least a 2 parter... I've worked a lot of places!
g'night!

I Never Thought

That I would ever feel a sense of satisfaction from mowing my own lawn.

That I would get to wash my car in my own driveway again - it's been about 11 years since I've had a driveway where there was a water source to wash a car.

That I would be washing my own Mini Cooper.

That I would have to keep an eye on my cat's behavior about as much as I have to keep an eye on my dog.

That I would be able to have an enjoyable brisk walk with Rudy without him straining at the leash.

That I would be missing the FP on my day off, when we just spent 3 whole days together.

That I would still be missing my mom so much.

That my healthy sister would ever have to deal serious medical issues.

That I would still be a line cook at the age of 38 and be fine with it.

That I would move back to Florida after I didn't move back two years ago.

That I would own a house in Florida near a high risk hurricane area.

That the FP would be a line cook again and be so exhilarated by it.

That I would utter the words, "We needed the rain."

That someone like Jerry Sandusky could get away with such awful abuse of children for so long in such a high profile university.

That there could be worse things going on in other seemingly "safe" places in the United States.

That I would be addicted to a site like Pinterest.

That I would buy as little music as I do.

That I would get to the point where I thought that maybe I didn't need to travel with my macbook pro because the ipod might be enough.

That I would have so much going on in my life that didn't involve my work, that when I'm not at work, I don't think about it too much.

That I would still have these slippers intact from almost 7 years ago.

That this 5 month old puppy would really be this big already.

That an ipod would take crappy pictures like these... but, it's better than the pictures from my phone, and my camera is busted....

Deep Thoughts

Rudy thinks that daddy (the Food Pimp) is a giant squeaky toy.  TFP was just lying on the couch watching TV.  Rudy was sitting on the floor, eating paper towels or the cat scratcher or something.  TFP farted.  Rudy sat up and he was all alert with ears perked up.  He thought that was a squeak.

I think that days should be 32 hours long.  That way I could actually get a good night's sleep, go to work, and still have more time to do stuff I don't get to do.

The Fuzz thinks that it is sad that she won't live to be old enough to be around when we are old.  She likes things quiet and at a slow pace - we move around too much and make too much noise for her taste.

The FP thinks that The Fuzz is the sweetest cat ever in the world.

Stinksy thinks that he doesn't get enough treats or people food, and he thinks that he should be allowed outside.

I think that people are more scared of everything than before, but that they are more willing to try anything to feel better.

My Boss thinks that you have to put chicken stock made with roasted chicken bones in almost every soup, sauce or stew.

I think that Stinksy purposely drinks from the toilet, then drinks from our water glasses to prank us or to get us sick.

The FP thinks that 9:30 is an appropriate time for bed.

I think that pets should live longer.

I think that every day you don't laugh is one day closer to death.

9. different types of gatorade
10. insomnia
11. abc family channel
12. the TV guide channel

New Year New You!

So, in keeping with resolutions, I'm going to do a soul searching.  You are invited to come along with me and journey deep into my soul.  Okay, not deep, because we don't want to go that far in, for fear of getting lost.  But, let's go under the skin, anyway.

So, I hope I haven't written about this before.  I often feel like I write about the same thing over and over again.  Did I ever write about my cats?  The Fuzz and Stinksy?  No?  The Fuzz is our sweet little mildly mentally challenged cat, and Stinksy is our cardiomyopathic cat.  Let me take this time to write about them.  Oh, wait I have written about them once or twice?!

Back to the topic of the day.  Some or most of this may seem trite, but I'm not trying to break new ground here, just baring my soul.

Things I hate about myself:

I hate that I'm awkward in unfamiliar situations

I hate that I'm not assertive enough sometimes when I need to be

I hate that there are times when I should have helped someone in some way, and I didn't

I hate that I care so much about what people think of me

I hate that I can be very slow in completing tasks

I hate that I play favorites

I hate that I am quick to judge, and I hate when later on I am wrong

I hate being wrong

I hate admitting fault

I hate giving false compliments

I hate being polite to someone I dislike

I hate taking orders from someone I don't respect

I hate that I either don't care enough about the way I look, or that I care too much

I hate that the TV and the couch are some of my closest friends

I hate that I don't know how to hang out with most people without drinking

I hate that I feel like a loser

I hate that I can't write for a living, even though I'm not disciplined enough to write as much as I should and honestly pursue it.

I hate that I don't entertain the cats enough

I hate that I don't say I love you enough

I hate that I'm OCD

I hate that I'm ADD

I hate that I have trouble letting go

I hate that I can't snap my fingers and fix all the FP's problems

I hate that I can't snap my fingers and fix everyone's problems

I hate that I'm only starting to care about important things in life later in my life than I should

I hate that I don't pick up the phone more often and call people, or even email or text them

I hate that no matter what is going on in my life, I always have moments when I feel so lonely and empty

I hate that I have an awful memory

I hate that I have an awful memory

I hate that I'm not funnier

I hate that I'm not piss your pants hilarious

I hate that I care about money as much as I do

I hate that I never talk to my in laws

I hate that I always seem to have some weird kind of physical problems

I hate that I didn't keep up playing piano

I hate that I didn't keep up playing all instruments, and that I haven't really played music in several months

I hate that I've only written one unpublished novel and never bothered to try to write another

I hate that I don't visit with friends and family more often

I hate my annoying voice

I hate the way I leave rambling voicemails, rather than just getting to the point and hanging up

Holy shit!  I could go on and on all night, especially with the insomnia I've been having!  But I guess I need to stop somewhere!
